How cashouts work
Cashout is the core objective of The Finals. A vault spawns on the map — your team must carry it to a cashout station and deposit it within a time window. Once a cashout starts, a timer counts down. The depositing team must defend the station until it completes. Other teams can contest by interacting with the station, resetting or slowing the deposit.
The team that banks the most cashouts wins. Simple in concept — endlessly complex in execution.
The three cashout situations
1. Starting a cashout
Before depositing, assess the map. Are other teams nearby? Is the cashout station in a defensible position? Starting a cashout in an exposed location with two teams nearby is almost always fatal. The best time to start a cashout is when other teams are fighting each other — let them drain resources, then come in fresh to deposit while they're recovering.
2. Contesting a cashout
When an enemy team is depositing, you have two options: full contest (attack immediately) or patience (wait and steal at the end). Full contest works when you're fresh and they're damaged. Patience works when you're depleted or outnumbered — let a third team wear them down, then swoop in at 10 seconds remaining.
3. Defending a cashout
Control the approaches. Use Heavy to anchor the station, Medium to heal, and Light to watch flanks. Deploy Mesh Shield to block one entry angle entirely. Dome Shield in the final 5 seconds if the situation is critical. Prioritise keeping the Heavy alive over anything else — they absorb the most incoming damage.
Cashout timing — the most underused skill
Most players below Diamond have no concept of cashout timing. Here's the fundamental rule: the team that arrives at the cashout last, fresh, wins. Every fight you take before the final cashout depletes your health, ammo, and ability cooldowns. Teams that rotate to cashouts at the last moment consistently outperform teams that fought their way there.
Check the minimap every 10 seconds. Know where all three cashouts are. Know which ones are being contested. Be ready to rotate to the least-contested one at the right moment.
Cashout stealing
The highest-skill play in The Finals. When two teams are fighting over a cashout, both are taking damage, using abilities, and depleting resources. A third team that arrives at the 10-second mark, fresh, with full HP and abilities, wins the fight and banks the cashout with almost no effort.
To steal effectively:
- Track the cashout timer on your minimap constantly
- Position your team 30–40m away from contested cashouts
- Wait for both teams to commit to each other before moving in
- Enter from an angle neither team is watching
- Prioritise the cashout interaction over kills — bank it, then fight
Common cashout mistakes
- Starting a cashout too early — in exposed positions with no cover, you're giving enemies a timer and a location
- Over-committing to a losing contest — if two teams are defending, disengage and find the other cashout
- Ignoring the timer — most players don't check how long is left. Knowing there's 8 seconds left changes every decision
- Leaving the station undefended to chase kills — kills don't win games, cashouts do
